BEAUTY | Dots on the Tips

Photobucket

Photobucket

I copied this manicure from my sister in law who is experimenting alot with her nails lately. She did it in another color skeme though, a grey nail with a turqoise tip. I used a matte nude nail polish as a base and added a little black stroke. I absolutely love these kinds of manicures that hardly consume any time, I even did mine on the train.

Last time I wore a double ponytail I was about 9 years old. But after spotting them on some backstage images of David Koma's spring-2011 show, I grabbed two hair ties and gave this hairstyle another try. It looks surprisingly fresh!

LIFE | Vanilla Perfume

The scent of perfumes can sometimes be quite abstract. You know it smells good but can't really tell what it is you like as the combination of scents create a new smell that you can't place in your everyday. Not with the perfume I've been using for the last couple of years. Vanilla Vanille from The Bodyshop smells like nothing more and nothing less than.. -here it comes- vanilla. It's so simple and obvious. Everyone has different associations with it. I've heard people around me say everything from I smell cake to I smell Icecream to I smell my mother's cookies. And how beautiful are the bottles? They look like old fashioned medicine containers.

The Dutch label Avelon recently came up with a new description of their brand; 'Beautiful. Different.' (They replaced their previous 'Ductape. Cocktaildress.' which I think is also pretty cool) Avelon asked me to do an interpretation of these two new words in the form of a blogpost, so I came up with this graphic make up tutorial which also doesn't leave out their old ducttape mantra.

A smudge proof, super quick, square liner. Makeup artist Sam Bryant came up with this look for Richard Nicoll's spring summer'12 collection. I loved the simplicity and the final result of it so much that I had to try it too. I cut little rectangular pieces of black duct tape and carefully placed them on the outer corner of my eyes to create this instant linear liner.

BEAUTY | Half Way Manicure

Photobucket

ring: hardware store

To do this two toned manicure in nude and black all you need is a bit of black naipolish and 15 minutes. You could use maskin tape to cover half of your nail before you paint it but if you have a steady hand it's much quicker to just go ahead and do it without.

BEAUTY | Graphic Eyeliner

First got the idea to buy a set of adhesive eyeliner patches from Dior, ´Velvet Eyes´. But after visiting a few local make up stores that didn't carry this product my impatience took over and grabbed a kohl pencil, liquid eyeliner and a q-tip. I started out with my regular makeup; a bit of mascara and a little line close to the lashes. Then I made two dots as references before applying eyeliner. One right above the point where the iris starts. The other in the middle of the imaginary line between the corner of the eye and the end of the eyebrow. After that it's just a matter of connecting the dots, making the corners sharper with liquid eyeliner and fixing small mistakes with a q-tip.

BEAUTY | Neon Lipstick

Lipsticks: Lime Crime.

My favorite piece of clothing is a white, plain, square, crew neck tee. I usually add one chunky metal piece of jewelry to it and if it's still boring, a pair of black or bright lips will take care of that. I´ve been a fan of the lipsticks from Lime Crime for a long time as they are perfectly opaque and matte. I ordered two new colors; 'airborne unicorn' and 'my beautiful rocket', brighter shades as last time.

BEAUTY | Winter Hair Care

Photobucket

Photobucket

For the last couple of months my poor hair has been mistreated, abused by the blowdryer and nearly bleached to death. But since it´s impossible in winter to have a good hairday anyway, I am going to try to make it up with my hair. Give it a break for a couple of months and give it some time to recuperate so that it will be nice and healthy in spring.

Measures I´ll be taking:
Braiding it or putting it in a (doughnut)bun will avoid the hair from blowing all over the place and getting tangled up. This will reduce chances to getting new split ends and there is also no heat required for these hairdo's. Keeping it extra moisturized is also important as indoor heating dries out hair causing more split ends. I do this with a tiny bit of regular olive oil after washing my hair, which is only twice a week. On a daily basis I spray a bit of oil nutritive wonder serum spray by Schwarzkopf. And lastly I'm going to lay off the peroxide, this will give the new hair a chance to grow and give my scalp a break. I do not mind the dark growth at the root at all, I actually like a bit of a neglected look.

VIDEO | Slicked Back Hair

This I-just-stepped-out-of-a-swimming pool-hairdo isn't anything new. Every season there is at least one designer that chooses slicked back hair for his models, we've seen it any other editorial, on the red carpet and on a 14 year old Kate Moss in the 1990s. Though it seems that it has never made it to the streets. I've never seen anyone wear a ton of gel in their hair like this on their way to work. The reason might be that if you do it too often your hair will probably start to fall out at the front and you'll end up with a mullet. But disregarding all that I thought I'd give it a try; it involved lots of combing and lots, lots of gel but the result was well worth it. I will defenitely be doing this slick coif more often.

BEAUTY | MAC Longwear Lipcreme

Photobucket

Photobucket

This lipstick has all the qualities I missed in other lipsticks. (No I´m not getting payed to write this) Mac's longwear lipcreme is matte, doesn't bleed, it lasts through a lunch and it comes in this amazing purple tone. If I must say something negative to make this review still appear somewhat journalistic then I'd say that the first half hour after applying it feels like glue on your lips. It is so sticky that it gave me some flashbacks to my lipgloss days.

BEAUTY | Subtle Noir French Manicure & Chain Ring

Photobucket

A subtle version of a french manicure in black. Instead of the usual nude and white, I used black nailpolish from Rimmel and a matte topcoat from Essie. ´A delicate silver chain necklace is wrapped around my finger and is worn as a ring.

BEAUTY | The Metal Nails

Photobucket

I've gotten a massive amount of questions on my nails of the previous post. It is not a nail polish but a nail foil. Kind of like stickers for your nails. It was invented by a company named Minx who put in on the market back in 2007. Now you can get your nails foiled at lots of nail salons and buy nail foil at every other make up store if you want to do it yourself. I recommend the ones from Sephora, which I always use for my toenails. Unlike nailpolish it doesn't chip off, if no air get's underneath the sticky foil you can wear them as long as you want to. Foiling the nails on your hands is trickyer, a friend of mine -thanks Michelle!- who is a nail stylist and recently started working with nail Minx did mine.

Backstage at Dsquared last year's fall/winter show.

We could either not wash our hair anymore and let our roots get really really greasy or just find a strong hairspray.

BEAUTY | Pastel Hair, products

Hair dye: Directions, Lilac and Lavender

The worst thing that can happen to grey hair is that after a few washes a yellow/blonde undertone starts to shine through. A shampoo with purple or blue pigments supposedly stop this from happening, but the effect of it is minimal.
I needed something more radical against the yellow glow on my hair. Temporary hair dye in a pale cool color (opposite of the yellow) was the perfect solution. Dying your hair with this pastel hair dye only takes 15 minutes. I use lilac from Directions, the pastel color changes from a light blue to a pastel fuschia in different light. But after a few washes the color fades and the hair color becomes a cold toned grey.

VIDEO | A Quick Hair Routine

Photobucket

Photobucket

Bloglovin and Aussie hairproducts are giving bloggers the opportunity to share their hair routines with the world through their website. They also asked me to contribute by showing how I style my hair. Click to see the hair tutorials of the other bloggers

I like hair to look a bit neglected.
You could say that Kate Moss, Debbie Harry and Mary Kate Olsen are my hair-idols.My hair is very thin and fragile, therefor I only wash it 3x a week. I do not mind frizzy hair at all.

Inglot matte nude nailpolish + random shiny black polish.
There is no trick or easy way to do this. Just sit down for it for 10 minutes and don't rush it.

BEAUTY | Going Grey

Photobucket

After buckets of bleach and chemicals my hair is finally grey. A color that is being stared at and commented on a lot because silver hair is something that most women would rather avoid. Being old isn't desireable apparently. And grey is associated with that, the only thing that our society seems to like nowadays is everything young. And in order for every idea to be young it must be replaced by the next in a short matter of time.

A good idea isn't good if it isn't a new idea. A beautiful shoe isn't acceptable because it has been out for three seasons and a person isn't beautiful if it isn't 17 years old. Luckily as fast fashion is slowly dying and people's cravings for the next new thing are stilled these insane and unrealistic thoughts are disappearing.

Good ideas last forever, I still love my Givenchy shoes from 2007, I just turned 23 but am jealous of Kristen Mcmenamy's looks.

BEAUTY | Matte Nails, A Top Coat

Photobucket
without top coat / with top coat
rings, ebay

'Matte About You' is a topcoat by nail polish brand Essie. The best thing about it is not that it makes your manicure last longer but that it makes your shiny nailpolishes matte! I used it on a very pale light grey color, with the mattifying topcoat they look like they are made out of cement and feel like a chalkboard. Many brands carry a topcoat with a matte finish. Also, check the men's beauty department for transparent matte nailpolishes.

BEAUTY | Two Toned French Braid

Photobucket

Just a regular french braid that is so loose that you can tuck the actual braid underneath and secure it with a few bobby pins.
